IAH Congress in Davos, Switzerland (8 to 13 September 2024)

The theme of this 51th edition of the world annual IAH conference is: Interacting Groundwater. The TBA Commission will be hosting a session on Effective transboundary groundwater areas for shared aquifer management, together with IGRAC, the Permanent Forum of Binational Waters, SADC-Groundwater Management Institute (SADC-GMI), UNESCO-IHP and the Centre for Sustainable Solutions in Applied Hydrogeology. The session will discuss existing challenges, approaches, and best practices in prioritising assessment areas to support transboundary aquifers’ sustainable management and governance and help guide policy and decision-making.

IAH Congress, 2024

Global Workshop on Conjunctive Management of Surface Water and Groundwater: National to Transboundary Level

This workshop will be held in Geneva and online, on 16–17 October 2023. Organized by the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention) at UNECE and a variety of institutional partners, including IAH, the workshop aims to increase understanding of the importance, needs and benefits of conjunctive water management in national and transboundary contexts through the sharing of good practices and lessons learned. The workshop encourages participants to consider conjunctive management in their countries.

Deadline for registration is 2 October 2023.

IAH Congress, 2023

IAH Congress in Cape Town, South Africa (18 to 22 September 2023)

The 50th IAH Worldwide Groundwater Congress of the International Association of Hydrogeologists will be hosted at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in Cape Town, South Africa from 18 to 22 September 2023. Excluding council meetings in Pretoria in 2011, it is the third on the continent after Cape Town in 2000 and Marrakech in 2014. Following congresses in Brazil in South America, Belgium in Europe, China in Asia, and now South Africa in Africa, this is the fourth continent for an IAH congress in four years.

The theme of the congress is Groundwater: A Matter of Scale, with a sub-theme on Improving shared sustainable use of groundwater resources that cross two or more jurisdictional borders.
